Putting a price tag on fun?

HT-Weird_ed | 21.01.08

I’ve been following the debate on the global conference regarding Hattrick Buddy lately. There are a lot of theories circulating about what happened. It seems like most people believe the HT Buddy owner got rich and ran away to a remote island to drink umbrella drinks and hang out with hot women for the rest of his life. Which sounds like a lot of fun, if you ask me. I don’t know if it’s true though, unfortunately.

As Alltid is one of the CHPP programs which has a payed-for service, I can see how someone might draw conclusions about us getting rich, and maybe head for some remote island as well. Unfortunately we’re not getting rich (you know that’s true, because if we did, we’d go to that remote island in a heartbeat!)

One of the things I’d like to point out to anyone considering buying, or have bought, the Alltid Supporter, is our Contact Information and Return Policy. Alltid Hattrick is run as a company, to keep track of everything which is going on, and to have a responsible entity in case anything happens.

The other thing I like to point out is that everyone seems to think that doing CHPP programs is something which developers should do for free. Because how much time could it really consume? A couple of hours a month? And how much money could it possibly cost? €5 a year for some web space, right? I have no idea about the amount of time which is spent on Alltid, but as I just finished the doing the financial report for 2007, I can tell you how much money is spent on running Alltid for a year.

Our expenses for 2007:
Hosting: €2481
Hardware: €5950
Other*: €3513
Total: €11944

(*Other includes costs for software licenses, ht2d, domains, etc)

If that isn’t crazy, then I don’t know what is. It is certainly tempting to use that money on women and drinks in 2008! But as we have an obligation to our paying customers, I guess we will keep on doing our thing this year as well.

Please let us know what you think about this by adding your comment below.

I don’t know nothing about Hattrick Buddy, whatever that is. I’m happy with Alltid and one more to help with team selections.
Considering all the work you (weird_ed) put on this, I’m happy to be a supporter. I for one want you to continue in 2008 and beyond!

Wicked! But it’ll be interesting how much income and profit you got :P.

I am satisfied with my own income …
Thank you for all your good work!

You know, Alltid Supporter has been worth it’s money, even if you ran away to a remote island right now. :)

Besides, you would take your laptop anyway. ;)

RebelClown Supporter (Jan 22, 08:29 AM)

@divine_evil: After taxes and vat has been paid, we’ll probably have enough profit to keep us going through half of 2008. I’m very glad we have that buffer because the income will be a lot less this year.

Weird_ed.

Thanks for all the effort you put in Alltid.

I wouldn’t run off with a few bucks…

Klein_Sigaar Supporter (Jan 22, 09:32 AM)

Maybe is an annual fee for supporters a better solution?! I think a one time fee is probably not enough …

I don’t want, that Alltid will stop in the middle of the year 2008!

Dude, adding advertisments to your web maybe give you some money for each person who see it or click on it. Why dont you search some web advertisments agency so you make a contract with them?. This web have a lot ot people coming here all weeks.

Mark_Wallace (Jan 22, 12:54 PM)

I assume you’re using adblock since you haven’t noticed that we actually have some ads here, but just google adsense. I’ve tested the ad networks, but they pay very poorly and have mostly annoying ads. But I’m working on something else there. My main goal is to avoid annoying users though. It’s not a goal to rake in as much money as possible.

Anyway, this isn’t a message of impending doom for the site. If the money is short in the future, we’ll just cut back to the most necessary investments. The site won’t die because of money problems.

I just wanted to show that even though CHPP apps are hobby projects related to a game, they might not be as cheap to run as people might think :)

weird_ed Supporter (Jan 22, 01:37 PM)

@afroseb: I’m pretty sure the site will survive much longer than that :) We’ve done most of the necessary investments, so most of the costs for 2008 will be hosting, and the occasional HD upgrades. Maybe some minor upgrades here and there, or a new server.

weird_ed Supporter (Jan 22, 01:44 PM)

thanks for the hard work by weird_ed annd crew :) .. yes, annoying ads are terrible(something like whats inflicting the HT site now :( , still there are some who are worse)..

i would really wish the site a longer life too.. i do feel bad not paying but i’ll give my word i’ll get supporter on my first real paycheck..

Thanx for this message. Before now I didn’t know what a CHPP site like altiid costs.

I wanna thanx all users who have altiid supporter, and even more thanx to the developers of this site. Who are getting even more busy with the coolness thing :)

Hey guys, you are doing a great job, to run such a site like this, i didn’t know, that it costs that much, I know i am not supporting you, but it is a problem with the paretns etc. so I can’t do it at the moment…

Friesland1990 (Jan 23, 07:55 AM)

Hey, everyone should go supporter. A one-time fee is nothing, and I paid for it with money I had in paypal that I didn’t even know I had.

zealotus Supporter (Jan 26, 04:07 PM)

I have been following the debate on Global as well. I can only say that this is the view of some short sighted people.

I, for one, love Alltid, ever since it started running stats for all countries (I even remember being jealous when Rebelclown told me about the site and I only found stats for the Netherlands).

so, keep on doing what you’re doing. I know it takes a lot of effort, but I can only hope that our gratitude helps you get it going.
